Long Distance Life – The Final Stretch

Oh hey friends.
It’s been a while since I just casually said hey on here.
So hey.
I was very much ready for the New year to start, since I was completely and utterly over 2018.
I thought I’d drink some champagne on the eve of my fresh start and it would fill me up with bubbles and hopefullness and I’d start 2019 with the bang (or POP! i guess)
But that didn’t happen, the new year came and I felt the same.
Andy left, and that was hard. I mean, it’s always hard. But this time, it was a bit different.

The Final Stretch

Andy left for Florida in July of 2015. So it’s been…
182 weeks, 1272 days, and 30,576 hours
since we started our long distance journey.

And now, we sit here on our final stretch.
He graduates in May. He left for Florida at the beginning of January and he wont be home until he’s done school.
So it’s safe to say it’ll be the longest 5 months of my life, but it’s only 5 months and I need to keep reminding myself of that.

How we doin?

So how did these 4 years go? Did we survive? I think we did.
I will say, the beginning is the hardest part. He was moving away to a new place, new friends, and new experiences. And I was staying in the same place, minus my best friend. So naturally, a dynamic like that could create a little bit of tension.
It was hard. Really hard. He was meeting new people (including girls), and those people (girls) got to see him every day. And I didn’t.
I’d be lying if I said the first couple months didn’t just eat at my curiosity and worry.
You begin to doubt yourself and your relationship, and that doubt turns into fighting and bitterness.
But then I took my first plane ride to Fort Lauderdale, and he picked me up promptly at 5 o’clock in the morning from the airport and when I saw him, I knew we’d be okay. It sounds corny, but sometimes we have those corny moments and we can’t control them. That’s the thing about long distance, it CAN be done. But both of you have to be willing to do it. Once that willingness happens, you’re truly golden. That’s the best advice I could ever give to anyone in a LDR. If you begin to feel like the other person is drifting away, the long string that attaches you guys overseas will be pulled way too tight. And people’s personalities change when their constantly tip toeing around a ripping string, waiting for it to break.

A last Minute Trip

There are a lot of things that are very up in the air for me right now. I’m trying to figure out what I want out of life (both career and personal), and trying to just make money and be happy until Andy gets home and we can figure out where to go from there. So this month, I decided to take a last minute trip to Florida. It was sudden, but I didn’t know when I’d get the chance to see Andy again, or if I’d be able to see him at all before he graduates. So I booked a flight. And it’s been really really nice. I managed to avoid some serious snow storms up in Canada, and I’ve been trying really hard to just relax and enjoy my time here in Florida. Our nights have been spent making brownies and watching Lord of the Rings (we’ll be watching Return of the King tonight).

A Quick Theme-Park Run

So, we’re sitting in bed. Just on our phones, chillen before our morning starts.
Me: I wish we were on Pirates of the Caribbean right now. Smelling that really specific smell.
Andy: We’re not going to Disney.
Skip to an hour later, we’re in the bathroom brushing our teeth.
Andy: Want to go to Disney?

Andy lives in Florida, I’m a die-hard Disney and Harry Potter fan, Andy loves theme-parks, we don’t know when we’ll find ourselves in Florida again… it was time for one more trip. It was a quick weekend trip, one day at magic kingdom, the other day at Universal. Our wallets are sobbing, but I’m glad we went. We had been to both parks so many times before, so we were able to just chill and take our time and enjoy the parks without feeling obligated to see EVERYTHING.

Some Quick Facts:
Sarah’s Favourite Park: Magic Kingdom
Andy’s Favourite Park: Animal Kingdom

Sarah’s Favourite Ride: Haunted Mansion / The Mummy (Universal Studios)
Andy’s Favourite Ride: Dragon Challenge (in Hogsmead, which is now closed 🙁 )

Sarah’s Favourite Show: Fantasmic
Andy’s Favourite Show: The Pet Training Show at Universal Studios lol

Sarah’s Favourite Park Food: Frozen Coca Cola (at the Launching Pad)
Andy’s Favourite Park Food: Lo Mein at Disney Spring’s Morimoto’s, followed by a cupcake at Sprinkles

Talk Soon.

That’s the update from me you guys! I spend the majority of my time working (I have two jobs), and when I’m not doing that I’m either working on Moon Soda stuff with Sami, writing, or spending time with Moo (my beautiful nephew who I miss deeply right now). I’m just in a weird limbo life right now. I’m trying to make money for my future, and I’m just kind of waiting… waiting for Andy to get home. And maybe once that happens we can start adulting together. I don’t know how quick it’ll happen, but I’d love to one day soon share blog posts of me possibly decorating a new home? (well, new to me) and maybe finally have a space to display my mugs!

Just a misfit blogger, living in the clouds, looking down on a ‘forever halloween’ kind of world.
Sending love and light wherever you are,

BW.
